Lorsque le photographe de rue Sébastien Durand<\/a> a commencé sa pratique en 2017, il cherchait l’inspiration autour de lui. Heureusement, il ne lui a pas fallu trop de temps pour réaliser qu’il pouvait profiter de son trajet pour se rendre au travail et faire preuve de créativité dans le métro. Le résultat est un portfolio croissant d’images mémorables qui détaillent les petits moments de la vie pendant que les passagers vaquent à leurs occupations.<\/p>\n

En choisissant de capturer ces images en noir et blanc, l'artiste donne à sa photographie une sensation intemporelle. Bien que prises dans le métro de Paris, on a la sensation qu’ils pourraient être n’importe où à n'importe quel moment. Pour Sébastien Durand, le manque de couleur donne également aux amateurs de son travail une chance de décider eux-mêmes où se concentrer.<\/p>\n

“Je trouve que la couleur dirige naturellement le regard vers le sujet principal, au détriment de l’environnement et des sujets ou motifs secondaires,” dit-il à My Modern Met. “Le noir et blanc n’impose rien et donne le temps de découvrir l’image en la parcourant à sa façon. J’aime l’idée de prendre le temps de visiter une photographie. Cela correspond bien à l’histoire que je voulais partager.”<\/p>\n

Au fil du temps, les travaux de Sébastien Durand dans le métro ont naturellement évolué en deux séries différentes. La première met en vedette la vie quotidienne dans le métro, tandis que la seconde examine les gens et leurs interactions inconscientes avec ce que le photographe appelle “le mobilier urbain.” Cette deuxième série, intitulée Subway Travel Companions<\/em>, utilise des publicités et d’autres éléments pour ajouter un peu d’ironie. Ces “clins d’œil au spectateur” sont sa façon de célébrer le flux des foules anonymes.<\/p>\n

Au final, le métro a été un merveilleux professeur pour Sébastien Durand. “C’est seulement lorsque j’ai pris le temps de poser les yeux sur mon trajet que j’ai découvert à quel point ces petits voyages quotidiens et insignifiants peuvent être intéressants”, raconte-t-il. “Toute l’humanité semble s’y rencontrer. C’est peut-être la première leçon que l’on devrait suivre pour apprendre la photographie de rue, c’est-à-dire poser l'appareil et être attentif aux autres.”<\/p>\n
